The epidermal skin cells are constantly transitioning from the bottom of the epidermal layer to the skin surface as the cells lose moisture and slowly die off. Depending on age and skin condition, this process takes approximately 28 to 38 days. This surface layer of dead cells can cause the skin to look tired, aged and dull. A chemical peel uses an acidic solution to remove the outer layer of skin and stimulate the production of new skin cells. The strength of acids determines the depth of exfoliation. Chemical peels can help improve the appearance of a number of skin imperfections, including fine lines and wrinkles, blotchiness, acne, acne scarring, melasma and sun damage.
At the Laser and Vein MedSpa we use SkinMedica peels, a peel line only available to physician-directed skin care offices. These peels vary in the amount of exfoliation each typically produces, as well as the recovery time. For best results, we recommend an initial series of three to six peels, supported by the appropriate SkinMedica skin care regimen. After your initial series you will need occasional maintenance peels to maintain your results. We can help create a plan to keep your skin glowing all year long. Below is a list of the available SkinMedica peels. Schedule a consult with me or one of my fellow skin care experts, and we can help you choose the peel and home care routine that best meet your personal goals.
