Writing my blog this month I am reminded how fast the summer changes into fall. We have had a college student for about six weeks now…she has either been home or we have been in Springfield every weekend since she has been gone. Her adjustment to being away from home has been a little more difficult than any of us were planning. Change and adjusting to new people and new surroundings can be so difficult, although what a fun new adventure. It seems like we all too often are in an adjustment time of life while we are waiting for something to finish or improve…we all need to be reminded to cherish and enjoy the journey. Every day is a blessing.
Just like in life, when beginning your skin care journey with us, one of the most important things to remember is that there really is not a “finish line.” I have worked in medical skin care for the past 10 years and have struggled with sun damage, pigmentation, redness and fine lines. I am faithful to my SkinMedica product and preventing sun damage, but I also love the sun, the water and being outside. It has at times been a struggle, but I keep in mind that we get just one face; unlike hair that will grow back if we get a bad cut or color, our skin is ours forever. One bad burn, years of being too tired to wash at night, and forgetting your daily sunscreen can wreak havoc for years to come.
Technology has advanced so much to help us “undo” some of this unwanted damage. Our Syneron Laser has the technology to help improve color, texture and elasticity. The Triniti Skin Series involves SR, which is our Color Correction laser. It is a safe, comfortable treatment with very little downtime. It causes mild “peppering”: that is the damaged pigmentation coming to the surface of the skin. In a few days it is sloughed away and you begin to see your pigmentation lighten. It is my secret weapon against my naturally pink cheeks and the few sun spots that I battle. It is done in a series of treatments that will gradually and safely remove pigment and redness. Sublime is added to a procedure to plump fine lines, aid in skin tightening, and to help soften pitting or scarring. Sublative is the last step in the Triniti. It is not a laser, but a radio frequency that causes minimal injury to resurface your skin’s texture, fine lines, wrinkles, pores and scarring. To be honest, this is my least favorite step…it is a little uncomfortable and has a day or two of downtime. Having said that, it certainly makes the biggest difference, making the results totally worth the downtime and discomfort. All of these procedures can be done separately, but combined together they offer color correction, skin tightening and resurfacing, targeting all three causes of visible aging and giving new life to your face and neck.
Remember that keeping up with your at-home routine as well as coming in for treatments will keep you ahead of the anti-aging battle. Our skin is always a work in progress. We should learn to embrace our imperfections and see the beauty in them while improving, preventing and maintaining what we have the capability to change. My skin at the age of 35 is better than it ever has been, thanks to SkinMedica and all of the amazing procedures that we offer. Hopefully you are enjoying your skin care “journey” with us, and if not, what a great time to begin!
