Dry vs. Dehydrated Skin

Genesis • April 30, 2020

Moisture is one of the key aspects of our skin’s health, and one of the biggest complaints that Inhear is that your skin is so dry that nothing seems to help. One of the questions that immediatelyncomes to my mind is: is your skin oil dry or water dry/dehydrated? There is a big difference and somenof the time the answer is both.

True dry skin is lacking moisture or our natural oils, usually from over-stripping with a harshncleanser or living in a climate where the air is very dry. Oil dry skin is very vulnerable to becomingnirritated and very sensitive to anything that you apply to it. It commonly looks red and feels rough.

Currently I think of my hands when I think of dry skin. The constant use of antibacterial soap and handnsanitizer has left them beyond dry. A few key ingredients to restore moisture are ceramides, essentialnfatty acids, and other active ingredients that will restore the lipid barrier. Dermal Repair and Pep UP are nwonderful for restoring moisture for dry skin.

Dehydrated, or water-lacking skin, can still appear smooth but lines and wrinkles appear morenprominent. Think of a grape and a raisin: the raisin is just the grape without all its water. Humectantsnare products that draw water into the skin, and hyaluronic acid is our go-to for dehydrated skin. HA5 isna product that will deliver instant hydration along with supporting the skin’s natural ability to retainnmoisture, changing your skin back to a plump healthy grape. For some clients that tend to have morenoily skin this is enough moisture for daily use, and for everyone else this applied with a little water prior to your moisturizer is a game changer.

Protection is always key in dealing with either dry or dehydrated skin. Colorescience’s EnviroScreen technology uses patented active ingredients, Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide, that createna barrier preventing free radical formation and oxidative stress, blocking UVA/UVB and blue lightndamage. All of this, while hydrating and moisturizing at the same time. Total Protection Face and BodynShield SPF 50 are my go-tos to maintain moisture and protect.

Let us help you decide if your skin is dry or dehydrated. We would love to see you for a virtual consult.

Are you tired of looking in the mirror and seeing the signs of aging, sun damage, or just the wear and tear of everyday life? Get ready to turn up the heat with Tixel, the skin resurfacing treatment that’s hotter than your morning coffee and twice as refreshing. This innovative treatment uses cutting-edge technology to rejuvenate your skin and leave you looking and feeling refreshed. So, what exactly is skin resurfacing? Essentially, it’s a process that removes the outer layers of your skin to reveal the healthier, more vibrant skin underneath. (Think of it like peeling a carrot.) This can help reduce the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, sun damage, and even acne scars. This is the best part – Tixel is non-invasive and has minimal downtime. Tixel uses heat to create tiny microchannels in the skin, which stimulate the body’s natural healing process and encourage the growth of new, healthy skin cells. Plus, because Tixel uses heat rather than lasers or chemicals, it’s a safer and more comfortable option. This method is less invasive and leads to less tissue damage, resulting in minimal downtime. Of course, it’s important to remember that Tixel is only part of the equation when it comes to healthy, glowing skin. To truly maintain those amazing results, you need to take good care of your skin at home. This includes using high-quality skincare products, avoiding excessive sun exposure, and staying hydrated. Think of Tixel as the hero of your skincare routine, and your at-home regimen as the trusty sidekick along with your Aesthetic Provider’s tips and tricks. Together, they’ll help you achieve your skincare goals.

Cosmetic fillers are a great way to help you turn back time, when used correctly. Do you notice the person staring at you in the mirror has a few more lines than before? Are you seeing an image of your parents or grandparents looking back at you? Time and the aging process is something we can’t stop, but we can help slow it with cosmetic fillers. Cosmetic fillers are a great way to enhance areas on the face or simply put back volume that time took away. They can volumize the cheeks, sharpen the chin and jawlines, volumize the lips, and soften unwanted wrinkles. Done in the right hands, cosmetic fillers will help bring back a younger, more youthful version of you! Injecting filler is an art that requires precision, ongoing training, and an eye for detail. For the best results, it is important that you choose an injector who is highly educated and stays current with the latest techniques. It is important to remember that fillers only replace volume; they don’t stop the movement of the face, which le

The good news is bioidentical hormone replacement can relieve these symptoms and even provide protection against chronic health conditions. Not to be confused with synthetic hormones that come with the risk of blood clots and cancers, bioidentical hormones are naturally made from plant-based materials and have little to no increased risk of cardiovascular disease or cancer, but instead are shown by research studies to protect against these conditions and can be used long term without an increase in risk.

It’s Sunsational month again at Genesis! We are looking forward to and getting geared up for our 16th annual Sunsational Celebration Open House on May 18th. It’s hard to believe how many of these we have put on as a company. Every year we are so grateful to all who celebrate with us. This year also marks, for me, 16 years of being a client of Genesis. As some of you know, Dr. Prasad and Barb are my parents, so I was exposed to great skincare products and sun protection from a young age. As I have grown up, and when I began my career at Genesis eight years ago, I tried even more of the services and products we offer. I can’t say enough how much they have changed my life. Everything I have tried has been fabulous, from vein care and Biote Hormone Replacement to routine facials and Botox. At 31, I feel younger than I used to and feel more confident in my skin than ever before. I have grown up around a lot of my Genesis team, and we have added some newer faces as the years have passed. They are amazing! I feel privileged to work with such a solid and passionate group of people. I think this place is pretty magical and you can feel it when you come through our doors. So, I invite you to hang out with us, meet the team, and experience all the fabulousness Genesis offers this month. Find something that will help you feel better or be more confident. You deserve it!
