One of my favorite myths to bust about fillers is that you will look foolish after being injected. There are so many examples of bad filler in the public eye today, from Hollywood elites to reality TV stars, that it’s no surprise that people are nervous about being injected.
My philosophy on fillers is that they are meant to enhance your beauty, not detract from it! You should still look like you. There are many different types of fillers available to us today. I have chosen my favorites to carry at the Laser and Vein Center, and feel these options best meet my clients’ needs. Some clients’ goals may be met by one filler option while others may need a combination treatment to best meet their needs. Clients occasionally come in and ask for a filler by name, such as Juvederm. This is perhaps based more on advertising than true need. The filler they are asking for may not properly address their goal. That is why the consultation process is so important. If I understand what their goal for filler is, I can customize their look much more effectively using the various products we have available to us.
My filler menu consists of Voluma, Juvederm Ultra, Juvederm Ultra Plus , and Radiesse. These four options allow me to address any need our clients could have. The purpose of cosmetic fillers is to replace the volume that we lose as we age. Volume loss is a normal part of the aging process and is accelerated by sun damage and lifestyle choices. We replace lost volume by rebuilding the midface and refilling the lower face and other areas such as under the eye, temple hollows, jaw line and lip.
Each filler has subtle differences and areas where they work best. Voluma is used to lift the skin complex and replace the lost fat in the midface. It will last up to two years. Juvederm Ultra is a wonderful filler for any place you want to smooth wrinkles. I use it around the mouth, nose, and under the eyes. However, I can place it safely just about anywhere it might be needed. Juvederm Ultra Plus is my favorite product for the lips and smokers’ lines around the lips. It gives a very natural feel to the lips when touched. Both Juvederm products will last around a year. Radiesse is another volumizing filler that can be used in multiple areas of the face. I use it to replace lost volume in the midface or in the temples when they appear hollowed. It is also indicated to last a year.
The most important thing to remember if you are interested in filler is to talk to us about what your goal is. Once we understand what look you desire, we can tailor the various fillers to achieve those results. Filler does not have to mean duck lips or puffy cheeks, but can be a subtle enhancement that restores the youthful volume time has erased!
