This month we honor our veterans by choosing the Central Missouri Honor Flight as our charity of the month. The Honor Flight transfers Mid Missouri veterans to Washington, D.C. to visit the memorials dedicated to honor their sacrifice. As the proud daughter of a World War II veteran, I know the sacrifices these men and their families made, and that service men and women continue to make, to ensure we live in a country where freedom is something we can take for granted. But it has not come without a cost.
If you have not been to Washington, D.C. and had the privilege to visit the war memorials and other historical sights, I would highly recommend you put it on your to-do list. It is impossible to go there and not feel proud to be an American and grateful to the people that founded and protected our country throughout history. I hope every World War II veteran gets the opportunity to see the long overdue memorial dedicated to their service. I stole the idea for my quote of the month from the Central Missouri Honor Flight website: “We can’t all be heroes. Some of us have to stand on the curb and clap as they go by.” – Will Rogers. I hope our veterans will consider this month’s donation as our standing ovation.
