This month we are excited to be sharing our profits with the Cole County Senior Nutrition Program. Diane, one of our nurses in our vein clinic, chose this charity for us. Diane has a history of working in the nursing home community and has enjoyed her work with seniors. She still gets to help the seniors that visit us have a relaxed and positive experience in our center. When given the chance to pick a local charity, she knew she wanted something that benefited the elderly of our community.nCole County Senior Nutrition Council seemed a perfect fit. This program benefits seniors who find it difficult to afford, shop for, and prepare nutritious meals. The program provides convenient access to a variety of nutritious foods, thus helping seniors retain their health, dignity, and independence to the greatest extent possible. Seniors will receive packages of 7 or 14 nutritious frozen meals weekly. Weekly deliveries allow the seniors to choose their meal of the day and what time they would like to eat.
Having meals delivered allows many seniors to remain in their own home rather than being forced into a nursing home. Additionally, the program gives peace of mind to family and friends to know that their loved one is having their food needs met. The seniors can also choose to dine in the local senior centers. They are asked to make a donation towards the meal, as able, but no one is turned away. They will receive a hot meal along with the opportunity to get out and socialize while dining.
Our seniors have done much to improve the quality of life in both our communities and families. I think it is wonderful that we have organizations such as the Cole County Senior Nutrition Program that allow our community to give back.
